BUBBLY MOBILE OPERATOR O2's 4G network is now available on the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C handsets, despite speculation that it might not be enabled until November.

O2 said on Monday that customers who picked up the iPhone 5S or iPhone 5C on its network can now enable 4G services. To enable the high-speed LTE connectivity, users will have to update the phones' carrier settings, which O2 explained can be done through iTunes or over the air.

An O2 spokesperson told The INQUIRER, "O2 4G is now available on iPhone 5s and 5c. Customers can receive 4G once they do a carrier settings update as long as they have a 4G tariff and are in a 4G signal area."

At preset, O2's 4G network covers London, Leeds, Bradford, Birmingham, Coventry, Leicester, Sheffield, and Nottingham, with Newcastle, Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester and Edinburgh to follow by the end of the year.

It's still unclear why O2 didn't offer 4G with the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C when the handsets went on sale in the UK. However, The INQUIRER has heard from industry sources that O2 didn't complete its LTE testing in time, which seemingly it has only just recently completed.

While O2 has not commented on the delay, it will compensate customers who haven't been able to access 4G on their shiny new iPhones, offering £5 credits towards their next phone bills.

This announcement from O2 leaves Three as the only UK mobile operator not to offer the apple 5s iphone cases speck underwood's new iPhones with 4G LTE connectivity. However, when the mobile network switches on its 4G services in the fourth quarter, Three will roll out the high-speed LTE connectivity to all of its users for free. µ
